The Outcome of Tonight's Plans

Ice skating was aight. We went to Polar Ice/Tucson Ice/Gateway Ice...I guess they can't decide on a name. The website says Polar Ice. The building says Tucson Ice. The sign on the road says Gateway Ice. Whatever. I asked the skate-giver-outer-guy what the difference between figure skates and hockey skates was, and he said that figure skates have a toe pick (I knew that already; I've watched The Cutting Edge) and hockey skates have more ankle support. WELL! Who wouldn't want more ankle support?? I went for the hockey skates, obviously. It was going really well for the first 2/3 of the time. It was very Ron-a-Roll-in-7th-grade-esque. Except on ice. I looked cute in my penguin shirt and wearing my blue scarf. Az didn't come though, so we had no one to take pictures of us skating. Hey, I said I'd try. I wasn't cold, thanks to my scarf, but my forearms got frozen. Whenever I'd stretch them all the way out, they would tingle all the way down through my thumbs. I think I have carpal tunnel syndrome, hard core. I'm not going to be whiny about it like everyone else though. Anyways, when it was time to switch directions skating, I was all too happy to give my right leg a rest. Until I found out that going the other way made me fall. Twice. Then I was done skating. Falling isn't fun. It's painful and cold and wet. Erin had been bitching about how the skates hurt her feet since we got there practically, so I didn't feel too bad about wanting to leave. It was funny how she missed me falling both times. HAHAHA...now only strangers can laugh at me. There was this little girl (I mean in size, not age...she wasn't that young, younger than I though) who was a really good skater. She was out in the middle of the ice the whole time spinning and jumping and skating backwards. It was great. I just kept watching her.

When we left, we decided to get something to eat. Erin suggested Little Anthony's Diner. Apparently, it's a big Tucson thing, and neither of us had ever been there. I'm really never that keen on diners (well, Emily and I have to differ in some areas, right?), but I felt that I could go for a milkshake or rootbeer float and some fries. When we walked in, I immediately noticed the hostess and her awesome 50's style skirt (sans poodle though). Then I saw pizzas on tables on those pizza stand thingys. Those stands somehow make them more appealing to me. We were seated and given water. Then we were left to peruse the menu. For about 20 minutes. I don't know why anyone would rave about this place. Granted, I never actually got a chance to try the food because we left after about the 80th waiter/waitress walked by us without even looking, but still. Worst of all though, the restaurant smelled bad. Like mildew or male cat spray. I guess if you like to go to restaurants to be ignored and you like the smell of cat piss, I highly recommend Little Anthony's Diner. But only on those conditions. We walked across the parking lot to Maxim, a soft-core strip club. HAHAHA...no, it's a Chinese buffet/Mongolian BBQ. It was ok, but we had to eat fast since we wasted so much time in the aforementioned diner that the restaurant was closing. I hate it when places say they're open until 10, but then they start to clean up at, like, 9:30. If you want to go home at 9:30, that's when you should close. It was a little nerve racking trying to eat and wondering if they were taking away all the food or not. I thing those of you who've gone to Sweet Tomatoes near closing time know what I'm talking about.

Anyways, here are some pictures of us, not ice skating...

Me at Little Anthony's Cat Pee Diner, then Erin there, then me at our REAL restaurant:

Going Ice Skating...

Woo hoo! I'm not just lazing around all weekend. I have actual plans. Plans that I'm going to be late for if I don't stop B-Logging and get going. I'm going ice skating, and tomorrow I'm getting a facial and going to 2 different study sessions. I thought I wasn't invited to one of them, and I was about ready to write off some more "friends," but then I checked my email, and I was invited. Good thing for them. HA. Here's a picture I took of myself before ice skating. I will take my camera with me and try to remember to take pictures of myself and Erin (and Az?) durng the event. I'll try.

Here are some other pictures I just took off my camera just now. They're from Christmas.

Christmas Village I made, daytime scene.

Night scene:

Dave, pretending he doesn't want his picture taken...oh, Dave...

Couple more things...I was just listening to XM radio through AIM, and I heard this totally awesome version of "Ring of Fire" by Social Distortion. Yes, I am listening to the '90s Alternative station. What else??!?!!!11 The other thing is that I totally have to go. Ahhhhhh...bye.

Poor, poor Sasha Cohen

I am so sad. After skating a flawless short program, darling Sasha Cohen fell and fell in whatever part one has to skate to win a medal in. Good thing I had forgotten to watch, or I'd have been crying. At least she has her looks though. Her beautiful, beautiful looks...

I haven't been posting lately, which, as I explained in personal correspondence with my loyal readers, was due to Emily's visit. By loyal readers, I mean reader, singular (Hi, Nick!). Emily and I had so much fun. Watching tv, watching dvds, watching tv shows on dvds, playing board games, eating a lot, and forgetting to go to the rodeo. We did some shopping as well. Oh, and she partcipated in my research project. That was fun...in that I had to do it anyways, and it might as well have been her. I'm actually wearing my new sweater today! It has crabs!

So Louisville doesn't want me. They decided to go with a student that has been with them for 400 hours already and goes to the U. of KY. Seems to me like they already had their collective minds made up on that one...

I got a penguin pen from the New England Aquarium from Emily. That was cool because I remembered her buying me something when we went there, and then I forgot about it. I guess so did she. But I have it now, and it's awesome!

I think I'm going to watch Party of Five now. Screw tv nowadays. Tv shows from back in the day are much cooler. We're luckier than our parents because as we get older, we can get dvds of our favourite shows that are no longer on tv. They couldn't do that. All they could do is rely on their dumb memories. I watched some of Party of Five last night, and the one thing I didn't remember from back in the day was the crappy acting. I hope it gets better. This is only the first season, but let me assure you, each and every actor on that show sucks, at least for the first 2 episodes of the series. Whatever...it's a good story line.

Weekend O' Sloth

Yes, it was a slothy weekend for me. I watched 2 movies today: Team America and I Love You, I Love You Not. The first was mediocre. It's not really even worth talking about. The only vaguely interesting things were the songs. They were semi-funny. The puppet sex scene was totally disgusting. Like, totally. The second movie was this Claire Danes movie I had never heard about. It sounded interesting though. It's about Daisy and her relationship with her grandmother, who lived through the holocaust. Turns out the relationship was gross and disturbing. I really thought they were going to make out, like, 3 times during the movie. Jude Law was also in the movie, but he couldn't save it any more than Claire could. Everyone's acting actually sucked ass, but they really didn't have much to work with because the characters sucked even more ass. Jude Law's character, the popular guy in school, decides that Claire's character, the loner girl with the weird relationship with her grandmother, is intriguing. They start dating, and, of course, all the popular kids start making fun of Jude for going out with the weird girl. Then there's some unnecessary-to-the-plot-line antisemitism in the school. Then Jude starts having doubts about their relationship because of his friends, which is lame. However in his defense, Claire is a gigantic toolbox, the place where tools come from. Watching her made me embarassed of being a female. In order to truly feel my pain, I guess you'd have to watch the movie. BUT I'm going to have to advise against that.

Parade of Countries

HAHAHAHA...I was watching the opening ceremonies at the winter games just now, and it's soooo funny. First of all, the music that they're all walking in to is, like, this crazy mix of 70-80's pop/disco pop music. Even the commentators on t.v. were like, "Oooo...I hope I hear "Betty Davis Eyes!!" HAHAHA...I heard "Video Killed the Radio Star," so I'm happy enough. The other funny thing is that, while each country walked in with a certain quiet dignity, the USA fell somewhat short of that sentiment. Every time the camera caught the eye of an athlete (no doubt, all snowboarders), they'd be like, "YEAH!! PLAYA WHAT!!!" It was ridonkulous. One of the girls on the team was even talking on her cell phone through the entire march. Oh US, you sleigh me...HAHAHA...

Quick Movie Review

I just watched Just Like Heaven, and it was 100% exactly what I expected. Every twist was predictably predictable, just as I predicted. Whatever, I'm still giving it 4 stars. There's more to movies than plot, People. Reese Witherspoon is adorable as always, and it was enjoyable viewing nonetheless. Also, Napoleon Dynamite was in it. The only way it could have gotten any more than 4 stars from me is if either it exceeded my expectations in a positive way or there was any choreographed dancing in it.

Meanwhile while Emily's kicked her debilitating computer games habit, I've increased mine immensely. Don't worry, though, because I'm not playing something gay like WOW. It's productive...it's Theme Hospital! That reminds me...gotta go!

Good things and bad things...

Good things: I passed my oral comps yesterday! I am the smartest girl in the world! I got a lot more applications out to places today. I heart my ipod now. I've been really good with my diet. Um...I get to take a nap now...

Bad things: I woke up this morning 30 min after I was supposed to be at work. I haven't walked all week.

There's more good than bad. That's good.
